Installation Displacement Assembly
Also known as an insulation displacement connection, insulation displacement assemblies are a method for terminating an insulated wire to a connector or terminal without pre-stripping the insulation from the connector. The essential difference between a crimp and an IDC contact is the way in which wire deformation is achieved. With crimps, the pre-stripped wire and terminal are severely deformed under high-pressure crimping dies to break through oxides and achieve metal to metal contact.
